26/11/2008 THE TERRORIST ATTACK..

It all started on 26 Nov 2008 and ended on 29 Nov 2008 killing 164 people and wounding 308 people. In these four days the whole India along with its economic capital Mumbai was horrified. Only one of the 10 attackers, Ajmal Kasab, survived the attack. He was hanged in Yerwada jail in 2012.Other nine attackers killed during the onslaught were Hafiz Arshad alias Abdul Rehman Bada, Abdul Rahman Chhota, Javed alias Abu Ali, Fahadullah alias Abu Fahad, Ismail Khan alias Abu Ismail, Babar Imran alias Abu Akasha, Nasir alias Abu Umar, Nazir alias Abu Umer and Shoaib alias Abu Soheb. This attack was done by 10 major people who contacted each other using various sim cards.

 Locations of attacks

By the early morning of 28 November, all sites except for the Taj Hotel had been secured by Mumbai Police Department and security forces. On 29 November, India's National Security Guards (NSG) conducted 'Operation Black Tornado' to flush out the remaining attackers; it culminated in the death of the last remaining attackers at the Taj Hotel and ended the attacks.
KASAB disclosed that the attackers were members of Lashkar-e-Taiba, among others. The Government of India said that the attackers came from Pakistan, and their controllers were in Pakistan.

REASONS:-

Mainly there were 2 main reasons for this attack...

1)Economic: Mumbai is the financial capital and known to be rather safe. If you can strike the economically most important city in a country, what else is left? It hurts the country manifold. Country's tourism gets affected majorly, higher risk rating for all financial deals, markets decline etc.
3) Easy target: Being a nation of 1.25 billion people, it becomes an easy target. Surveillance and monitoring is all the more tough. And as a plus for them, even a small incident would result in heavy losses.

These both things were fulfilled and India realised the power of Pakistan. This had a great impact on India's economy...
